Fall 2024 Wrap Up

A 30-Year Legacy

2024 marks 30 years for LOC here at Pyramid Point. What's truly incredible is that we've had some schools that have been coming since the very beginning, and now we're seeing parent chaperones coming with their children who came to LOC as students themselves. We refer to these schools as "legacy" schools, and it's so fun to hear about their experience when they were kids and how LOC has evolved over the last 30 years.

Laker Middle School is one such school. It is located in Pigeon, Michigan, which is in the “thumb” of the state, about 50 miles northeast of Bay City and just 7 miles from the shores of Lake Huron. They come every year, the 6th graders in the fall and the 7th graders in the winter. When their 6th grade class was here this fall, we had multiple parents who had been to LOC as students and were then coming with their own children. Two of these parents, Bill Comai and Jessica Bruce, calculated that they had been to LOC in 1996, just two years after we opened. They had a good laugh remembering how big the Great House felt when they were in middle school and expressed their appreciation for being able to come back and experience camp again with their respective children. Bill said “the moment that I stepped back in [the Great House] it was a massive flashback. I remember songs and stories and the room full of laughter. …I was a new student at Lakers in 6th grade. I hadn’t been [t]here long before the trip took place. I remember all the kids on the lawn playing games and having fun. The relational growth that took place during those games was huge!”

Fall Festival Celebration

Our year long, 30-year celebration culminated in the Fall Festival on October 5. It was an open house event for all ages, with Archery, Pumpkin Carving, Rock Climbing, Face Painting, Zip Lining, and more! It was a beautiful autumn day and we saw over 100 attendees, including some friends from the Children's House, Leelanau Montessori, and Westwoods Elementary. It was an absolute blast having so many folks out to enjoy our incredible property and take part in all the fun activities LOC offers. It was the perfect way to celebrate!

LOC Staff

Our incredible LOC Staff were hard at work all season to help each student work on our three LOC Goals: Do Your Best, Be Considerate, and Have Fun. We had a larger than usual staff this Fall, which was amazing!! They were a super fun group and we are always so grateful for their hard work and enthusiasm to share their love of camp.

Endowment Matching Fund

We are currently trying to raise funds for a matching grant program to get to $1,000,000 in our LOC Endowment. This endowment was set up solely to offer tuition assistance to students who wouldn't be able to attend LOC on their own. We now have $500,000 in the Endowment and we have 5 years to raise an additional $250,000 for the matching program.
